Variety notes - Spring Oats

  • Zuton is a naked oat. It is not listed on the HGCA Recommended List but is described here for those who are interested in growing for this relatively small market. Growers are advised to discuss the merits of growing spring naked oats with potential buyers prior to sowing. It should be noted that all data are limited.

  • Yields are around 28% lower than Firth and 33% below the highest yielding recommended husked variety.

  • It has relatively good straw strength and early maturity.

  • Good resistance to mildew.

  • Breeder: IGER.
