Consort

Variety notes - Winter wheat
« Back
  • Consort is specifically recommended for the North region. Although agronomically outclassed by newer introductions, it remains of value in the North, where it performs better than Claire.

  • nabim reports that it is a good biscuit wheat, which is still popular with millers for its dough extensibility.

  •  Classified as uks soft wheat. Meets the specifications of the export brand and has support from end-users.

  • Rated as "moderate" for distilling.

  • Stiff-strawed but its disease resistance spectrum is weaker than Claire's.

  • Very susceptible to brown rust and susceptible to Septoria nodorum and Septoria tritici.

  • A slow developing variety, useful for early drilling.

  • No longer grown in RL in trials.

  • Breeder / UK Agent: RAGT seeds Ltd (www.ragt.co.uk ).
