DEFRA has released provisional results for its UK June Survey, giving estimates of cereal plantings in the UK. The Survey estimates total cereal plantings to have increased by 13%.

Wheat plantings are shown up by 13.2% to 2.07Mha, compared to 1.83Mha last season. In terms of barley, total plantings are seen up 1.03Mha from 0.89Mha last season, representing a 14.7% increase. Of these, winter barley estimates show a 10% increase to 0.421Mha, while spring barley plantings have risen by 18% to 0.609Mha. Finally, the results suggest oat planting have increased by 0.6% to 0.130Mt, contrary to oilseed rape plantings, which are seen down by 11% to 0.599M.

These results are in line with previous estimates released in HGCA's Planting and Variety Survey, which also estimated a 13% increase for total cereals;  a 14% and 12.4% increase for wheat and barley respectively; and a decrease in oilseed rape plantings of 13%.
