HGCA Recommended List candidate varieties

The files below list the varieties in RL trials in 2009 that will be considered for recommendation in the autumn.



Varieties grown in trials in 2008 but not added to the HGCA Recommended Lists

Three varieties were grown in HGCA spring barley trials in 2008 but were not included in the Recommended List. These are:

  • Berlioz, Conchita, Virgil

Spring Barely For Export

Several varieties which have been grown in trials in the UK are now used for malting in Europe.

Some of these are recommended and the best source of data for those is the current HGCA Recommended List.

Others were not Listed or have been removed from the List and a summary of their performance is given in the tables below.

Growers are strongly advised to speak to their merchant before committing to a particular variety for export.
